Revelation: the book of comfort and glorious hope through Christ

Revelation 1:18-19 - “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. [19] Write the things which thou hast seen, and the things which are, and the things which shall be hereafter;”

Our devotional passage today completes my series taken from all the books of the Bible. This text is centered on the message conveyed in the Book of Revelation. The essence of this message is to instill hope in our hearts rather than to induce fear. 

The author, John the Beloved, was used by God to document what God had revealed to him to let us know what lies ahead. This revelation brings an end to the confusion that we may be experiencing. We are assured the Lord has a plan. We may not understand everything, but His plan has never changed. 

Throughout the course of human history, the world has been deeply affected by sin and its consequences. Despite the enemy's relentless efforts to bring destruction and defeat, God has promised that our redemption will be much more glorious and victorious. The book of Revelation provides us with a powerful message of hope and confidence in this promise, and it is just one of the 66 books that make up the Bible. 

From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible tells a sweeping and inspiring story of God's plan for salvation and the restoration of all things, offering us guidance and hope for our lives. In its pages, we discover the depth of God's love for us, his unyielding mercy, and his unwavering commitment to bring about our ultimate redemption.

The Revelation brings hope and assurance that the ultimate victory in the ongoing battle between good and evil is secured. Through Jesus' sacrifice, the accusations of Satan are disarmed, and the power of sins is nullified. The blood of the Lamb represents the ultimate triumph of the Lord over all forces of darkness, giving us the confidence to face any challenge with courage and faith.

The promise of Christ's reign has always been with us, even in the face of Satan's influence. In Revelation, we see a day when Christ's victory over evil will be evident. He will return to earth, triumphant and surrounded by the armies of heaven, and all injustice and misery will be forever defeated. As it is written, "He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore." Let us take comfort in the promise of this glorious future.

Before this, we can take comfort in the knowledge that the Lord's righteous reign will one day extend to every corner of the globe. This certainty of Christ's return and the exacting of perfect justice is the rock on which we stand. Even in times of adversity, we can remember His tender care for His saints and find inspiration to carry on.

In times of internal conflict, when we grapple with difficult cases of church discipline or struggle with guilt due to sin, we must remind ourselves that we are under the loving Lordship of the one who willingly shed his blood for us. In moments when we are scorned, accused, mocked, or shunned by the world because of our unwavering allegiance to Christ, we must remember that we have been promised an unshakeable inheritance: the privilege to reign on earth and to bask in the eternal radiance of God himself.

Our Prayer today:

Thank You, gracious Father, for You have left us a message of great comfort and hope to look forward with great anticipation to Your coming and glorious reign. May we also take this as a message to reach out to those in need of the Savior. Help us to remain faithful and mindful of the lost and hurting so they will also experience Your saving grace and glorious hope eternally. In Jesus' name. Amen!
