Be Anchored in Jesus Christ!
Dr. J. Hernes M. Abante
Hebrews 6:19 - “Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil.”
Today, the world is filled with driftwood—people who seem to be thriving, yet lack direction. They are being gently carried and lulled towards oblivion, unaware that their destination is destruction. They claim to have knowledge and understanding suitable only for their time on earth, with no hope of eternal life. This is the reality for those who do not have a relationship with God through His Son, Jesus Christ. They are anchored to the world and the flesh, which will eventually lead them to eternal condemnation.
There is another group—those who claim to be anchored in Jesus Christ but are also drifting away from God. Although they are saved, God has positioned them securely and anchored them in Him. While they are firmly anchored in Christ, the connection that links them to the anchor can be loose or tightly secured. These are Christians who seek to enjoy the attractions of the world. They indulge in worldly pleasures, tossed back and forth without steadfastness. They aim to reach heaven, but without eternal rewards.
Then, there are the faithful—those who are securely anchored and never succumb to worldly temptations. They understand their purpose, knowing they are saved to be witnesses and to rescue those who are drifting away. These are the obedient children of God who choose to avoid worldly enticements because they desire to fulfill His perfect will in their lives.
Among these three groups, where do you see yourself? Are you part of the lost and in need of the Savior? Or are you among those who know they are saved but still seek the fleeting pleasures of the world?
Our text declares that Jesus is the anchor of our souls. Without Him, we are like driftwood carried wherever the waves take us. When lives lack purpose and direction, they often lose sight of what is meaningful.
The Day of Reckoning will come, and it is swiftly approaching. We must examine ourselves to see if we are truly in the faith. If you are not saved, come to Christ by faith—repent of your sins and ask Him to enter your life. There is nothing else you can do but trust in Jesus alone for your salvation.
If you are already saved but still entangled in sin, why not return to Jesus? Be secured by the anchor He has already provided for you.
Let us join the faithful in aiming to please God and honor Him with lives set apart to serve and glorify Him. Let us be tightly anchored in Christ!
