Believers Must Be Careful to Maintain Good Works
Titus 3:8 - “This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.”
The faith that saved us is also the faith that will sustain and use us for His glory. It is the power that manifests the genuineness of our salvation experience. The faith that is in all believers will produce and maintain good works.
It appears that the testimony of the believers in Paul’s time is similar to what we see in most of those who profess as believers today. Faith is only a declaration of their beliefs, a form of loyalty to the established faith or religion. However, it is void of the outworking of faith.
Sadly, the majority of believers are more interested in maintaining the form of Christianity without the power of the Holy Spirit, who is always excited to show Jesus Christ through us.
As a great disciple and a spiritual mentor to Titus, Paul reminds his son in the faith that he constantly affirms the truthfulness of those who claim to have received Christ.
We must be concerned about the profession of those we have led to Christ. Do they understand the reason why Christ saved them? Are they aware of the divine responsibility God wants them to accomplish? How about the spiritual enemy they are facing?
All the children of God pass through stages of spiritual growth. Yes, they have everything needed to be what God wants them to be. The potential is in them, but they need to be taught and to grow in the knowledge of the Savior. We cannot be so naive to think that once they are saved, they will immediately know how to obey and serve.
With the battle raging and the enemy advancing, God’s people must remain strong in the Lord. They must learn how to wear and skillfully use the whole armor of God. We, who are strong, must help the weak and those still young in the faith.
The Lord has already guaranteed and secured the victory. The enemy has already been defeated. We are fighting, not anymore, to be victorious. God wants us to faithfully fight the good fight and live right so we can celebrate with the faithful the glorious victory God had already and finally secured for us.
God, being perfect will not be affected by what we do or not do. His grace encourages us to live by faith to allow us to experience the glorious victory and to receive the rewards of faithfulness. It is incredible to think that everything God does and commands is for us to be more blessed. “These things are good and profitable unto men.”
Our Prayer for today:
Thank you, Father, for you did not have to allow us to live. You did everything to benefit us. From the very beginning, you did everything for us. You will enable us to live, serve, and obey to give us the glorious opportunity to celebrate victory.
All along, we thought you needed us to fight to gain victory, and you need us to obey, serve, and give to accomplish all your plans.
We forget that you are perfect. Being perfect, you do not need anything, including us and what we can do. Thank you, Lord, for choosing us as the recipients of your grace. This we pray in Jesus' Name. Amen!
