LOVE NEVER FAILS
1 Corinthians 13:6-8
Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
It’s the theme in every Disney princess story. We preface the word with descriptors like “puppy” and “true.” Sometimes it happens at the top of the Empire State Building. Whatever it is, however it happens, we are obsessed with love.
The irony is that love is hard work. While the movies have given us love stories and romantic comedies that bring us a warm and fuzzy view of finding love, actually keeping love is an entirely different story. Divorce statistics bear this out. To always trust, hope and persevere is hard work.
But love can do it.
Love doesn’t exist in a purely scientific world. Without the soul, all we have are the primal instincts of attraction, protection and reproduction. Love has always been God’s greatest gift, and the strongest proof of his existence. So the next time someone asks you to prove God’s existence, refer them to their favorite love story, and remind them that only God’s kind of love can make it last.
GOD’S PROMISE TO ME:
• Love will always persevere.
• My love for you is never-ending.
• I will help you to love.
MY PRAYER TO GOD:
Lord, thank you for creating love and loving me. Help me to love others, especially when it feels difficult or even impossible. Amen.
