GOD IS GOOD
Nahum 1:7
The Lord is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.
It has been said that one of the greatest struggles in life is believing that God is good.
In the garden of Eden, Adam and Eve doubted the goodness of God—apparently thinking that he was withholding something wonderful from them. As a result they sampled the forbidden fruit and plunged the human race into sin (see Genesis 3).
We wrestle with the same doubt. Why else would we refuse to do what a good God tells us to do or do the very things he forbids? When trouble comes, do we run to God for refuge, or do we run away from him and try to solve our problems on our own, believing that if God really loved us, he wouldn’t have allowed this thing, whatever it is, to happen to us.
The truth you can take to heart today is the reality that God is good. So are his plans and purposes for you. He wants only the best for those he loves. Ask him to make that truth real to you today.
GOD’S PROMISE TO ME:
• I am good.
• I am a strong refuge.
• I am intimate with those who trust me.
MY PRAYER TO GOD:
You are absolutely good, Lord. Teach me to trust wholeheartedly in this most basic of truths. When I am in trouble, help me to run to you and experience your goodness. Keep me from the foolish mistake of believing that life and help can be found outside of you. Amen.
