GOD’S PRESENCE GIVES YOU COURAGE
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
Joshua 1:9
At bedtime the five-year child is afraid. Maybe it’s the dark. More likely it’s the fear of what might be lurking in the dark. The nightlight bulb is replaced, and countless words of assurance are spoken. But still the child trembles. Not until Dad enters the room and sits on the bed for several minutes does the child peacefully drift off to sleep.
There is something about a good and strong father’s presence that gives children security and peace.
This was the point of God’s promise to Joshua in the key verse for today as the nation of Israel stood poised to move into a strange land filled with strong enemies.
This is the point of God’s promise to you. He’s with you all the time … and that is more than enough.
GOD’S PROMISE TO ME:
• You do not have to fear.
• You do not need to give in to discouragement.
• I am with you wherever you go.
MY PRAYER TO GOD:
O Lord, you tell me to be strong and courageous—to not be afraid or discouraged. With all that I’m facing, such commands seem impossible. Help me believe this pledge, not just in my head, but deep within my heart. Make this truth real to me in my times of trouble. Amen.
