GOD CALLS YOU TO USE YOUR GIFTS
1 Corinthians 12:4-7
Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
God graciously gives every believer at least one spiritual gift to use to build up the church. We cannot choose the gift we want; God decides (see 1 Corinthians 12:11). So it follows, then, that we must discover our gift and use it for God’s glory.
Paul made it clear that there are different kinds of gifts—different ways the Holy Spirit works through us. The Bible gives some lists of gifts, but these are not meant to be exhaustive (see 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 and Ephesians 4:7-12). We are to use our gifts in harmony with others’ gifts so that the entire job of reaching people for Christ and building them up in the faith can be completed.
We can discover our gifts from God as we try out different things and discover what we really love and are good at. This discernment process may take some advice and observations from others. Once we determine our gifting, we can use our gifts for God’s glory and to bring others to him.
GOD’S PROMISE TO ME:
• I gave you a special gift to use in helping to build my kingdom.
MY PRAYER TO GOD:
Lord, your Word says that you give your people special gifts that they can use to build your kingdom. Thank you for the different kinds of gifts that the Spirit has given me. Give me wisdom and discernment and many opportunities to use my gifts. Amen.
