GOD REWARDS YOUR HARD WORK
Proverbs 10:4
He becometh poor that dealeth with a slack hand: but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.
The book of Proverbs is Hebrew wisdom literature—meaning it is a collection of wise sayings written in poetic form. Essentially these verses of wisdom are the universal observations of those (mostly King Solomon) with vast experience and skill in living.
Modern-day readers are mistaken if we see these pithy maxims as absolute promises; technically, they are general principles—things that are normally true. Even so we are wise to read and heed what we find in these 31 chapters.
The proverb above contrasts laziness and diligence. Typically, the lazy person ends up suffering while the hard worker eventually enjoys a measure of prosperity. It’s not a guarantee, but success is much more likely for the diligent person (see Ephesians 6:7-8).
What about you? Are you doing your best and going the extra mile? Remember: Excellence usually results in a handsome payoff.
GOD’S PROMISE TO ME:
• I reward the diligent.
MY PRAYER TO GOD:
Heavenly Father, you honor the diligent. I want to do my work with enthusiasm and for your glory. Keep me from a lazy spirit. Even though many around me expect something for nothing, help me to be willing to labor. Please honor my efforts.
Amen.
