GOD HONORS HIS FAITHFUL SERVANTS
He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.
John 12:25-26
Look carefully at each of the verbs in today’s promise passage. Loves. Lose. Hates. Keep. Serves. Follow. Am. Be. Honor. These are serious words with serious implications.
Basically, if we opt for a petty, self-absorbed life (loves), we miss God and the eternal blessings he offers (lose). On the other hand, if we exchange our self-centered, temporal agendas (hates) for Christ’s, the deepest desires of our hearts are fulfilled in ways we cannot anticipate (keep).
Are you following Christ (serves)? Embracing his attitudes and values (follow)? Imitating his lifestyle (am, be)? At home? In the neighborhood? In the workplace?
If so, there’s just one more word: honor.
GOD’S PROMISE TO ME:
• I bless those who give their lives away.
• I honor those who follow Christ.
MY PRAYER TO GOD:
Thank you, God, for saving me—for showing me that you and your glory are the main thing in life. I am not. You are worthy of all that I am—my attention, my affection, my adoration, my life. How easy it is, Lord, to forget my purpose, to forget that I was made by you and for you. Amen.
