GOD CALMS YOUR TROUBLED MIND
John 14:27
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
In a fallen world, what we have most is trouble. What we have precious little of is peace. Peace of mind so that we can turn off all the nagging worries and “what ifs?” and find true rest. Peace of heart so that we are not forever paralyzed by crippling emotions. Peace of soul so that we can face the future with confidence.
Temporary distractions and short-term pleasures are the best our world can offer. These provide a brief respite from our concerns, but they do not fill our souls with peace. Though we escape our pain or medicate it, we must eventually come back to reality. And there we are again: face to face with our external and internal storms.
What we really need is what Jesus offers. Not the promise that we’ll escape from trouble but the promise of peace in the midst of our tough times. Real peace. Otherworldly peace. Enduring peace. Who wouldn’t want such a gift?
GOD’S PROMISE TO ME:
• I offer you peace of mind and heart.
• My peace is totally different than the world’s version of peace.
MY PRAYER TO GOD:
Lord Jesus, I want to know your peace firsthand. Keep me from chasing after counterfeits. I don’t want worldly distractions or pleasurable diversions. I want the blessedness of resting in you. Amen.
