GOD WILL PURIFY YOU

1 Thessalonians 5:23

And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Some years ago, Charles Swindoll wrote a book about the Christian life entitled Three Steps Forward, Two Steps Back.

If you’ve been a follower of Christ for any length of time, you know that’s an apt description of the journey of faith. Our experience is full of stops and starts, hits and misses, ups and downs. We think we’re making progress one day, only to encounter some kind of unexpected obstacle the next. When the smoke clears after a day of spiritual setbacks, we feel even further from our goal.

But in the midst of our struggle comes the promise that God is making us holy. He is transforming us from within, bringing the new life of the soul to the surface of our lives. He is fully committed to the process of purification within us. 

GOD’S PROMISE TO ME:

• I will make you holy.

• I will keep you holy.

MY PRAYER TO GOD:

God of peace, do your work of holiness within me. I want to honor you with my life. I want to resist sin today. But at the same time, I confess something within me is often attracted by evil. Keep me blameless. Give me a love for you and a zeal for your glory that far surpasses any impure passion. Amen.
